water cycle process
the water cycle is a biogeochemical cycle that involves the continuous circulation of water in the earth-atmosphere system.
there are many processes involved in the water cycle, the most important points are;-
evaporation -the transfer of water from the surface of the earth to the atmosphere. the principal source of water vapour is the oceans but it also occurs in soil, snow. in short, evaporation is liquid water turning to water vapour
condensation -the transition process from the vapour state to the liquid state is called condensation. in short condensation is water vapour cooling to form small water droplets.
water cycle steps
- some return to the atmosphere by evaporation
- some intercepted by vegetation then transpiration
- some percolates [percolation -water flows vertically through soil and rocks.] into the soil by infiltration [flow of h2o from the surface to the ground.]
- The remainder flows as run-off to the sea.
